[V8] '93 V8

I bought my V8 from Carrera Motors. They are primarily a Porsche dealer I think - but definitely specialize in the German iron. As far as I know, they are a solid and reputable company. It is likely they did the regular maintenance on this car - in fact I can see it has the correct coolant, and the timing cover gasket is shrinking - indicating to me that it has been removed - indicating service was done.

When I look at this car, I see that it has been obviously well kept, and is likely up to date on everything. I would still do a timing belt and change the transmission oil - but I do that stuff myself so no big deal. Since my car came from the same place, I can tell you that in Bend Oregon, your car is coated in red volcanic dust if it ever gets near a dirt road - of which there are many. I see none on this car.
$2000 does not buy a lot of car these days. In fact it is about 4 or 5 payments. I really don't think it would be silly at all to buy this one. We know the motors are good on these cars, and the heads are rebuildable if necessary. We also know the transmissions can be weak, but they are also rebuildable if you find the right shop - and it just happens that shop is in Bend (S-CarGo in Boise would also do it). The primary guts are a HP24 (I think that is right - ??) which was used in all kinds of euro cars. It is definitely repairable. The transaxle may be more difficult - but they are practically bullet proof so no worries. Same for the Torsen and rear end. Other normal wear items like suspension parts, radiator, etc are as far as I know still available. It is just V8 body parts that are a problem but this car has lots of life left in the body - just don't wreck it... If you drove this car for just 3 years, you would not lose money.

Also, no mention of what brakes are on the car and I suspect the seller may not even be aware of why this might or might not be important.

There are far too many newer cars on the road for small dollars that do what this car does at a far lower cost per mile. At some point the V8 quattro will be a true "collectors" car. That is to say, thee LAST V8 Quattro running in perfect condition with 10,000 miles from new will be for some museum collection of some eccentric millionaire who has forgotten what cars he has in his collection. Otherwise, no: just another Audi oddity in Audi's long history of such vehicles.
