[V8] Shifter Gate Light + Handle

Hi everyone,

I'm running into another issue I can't seem to resolve with the '92 4,2.  I
took my car to the body shop for a small fix and immediately I noticed that
the light on my shifter gate was out and the shifter sort of toggled
loosely between gears (like its broken some sort of locking mechanism).  My
audi expert mechanic is suggesting changing the entire shifter, which is a
lot of work.

Any chance there is an easier fix?  It not does anyone have a replacement
part with a working light on the gate?
