Funny you mention the Torsen. I think my allroad would be perfect with one of those.
I am not leaving the four rings anytime soon... I just bought another allroad with a good body/interior (and 200K miles) and dead transmission for $500. I repaired the transmission (broken drum) and replaced the clutches and torque converter. Also rebuilt the front end and any other little things I find. I’ll have about $3K into it when I’m all done and my daughter will get a nice ride to end her collage years with, and start her next chapter.
She is driving a 98 A6 now with a zillion miles on it with no real problems. I like the big heavy safe car for her drives to and from school. There is a lot of nothing between salt lake and boise. I have found the A6 2.8L to be a solid and reliable car.
The allroad - despite its reputation has also been good. I accept that the suspension needs attention every few years - but I’ve had mine about 5 years now I still love it.
And since this is a V8 list, I saw one a few days ago! I still like the look of that car.
