You know, here's another thing that's used to pile guilt on us by the
(fill in the blank). Most people don't realize that it isn't just cars,
trains,
planes and trucks that account for this. Here we are driving our diesels,
some for the "greenery" of it, others (me) because of it's inherent
characteristics or money saving properties. I'd guess, without actual
figures it IS just a guess, that cars only use perhaps single digit
percentages of the consumed crude in this country! I'd heard once that
planes, I think it was planes, use more fuel than all other forms of
transportation combined! It's still a relatively small percentage.
Everything from your carpet, vinyl upholstery, sleeping bags and television
right down to your wife's panty hose, is made from crude! Nylon, Polyester,
Polypropylene, heck even the propane in the barbecue or the butane in a
lighter, the plastic in your computer keyboard and monitor, all plastic and
nearly all from crude except for the small percentage of recycled stuff. I
really doubt raising the CAFE standards would make much of a difference
in the amount of imported crude. :(

> Incidentally, if you know of any subsidies, let me know.

JUST ASK LASKO!!! (if you haven't seen or heard those annoying
commercials, forget it.) ;-)
