"Our provincial government is planning on investing heavily in ethanol
plants in the next little while. Every one will be next to either a
steer factory or a hog factory, much like the one that currently exists
nearby-( poundmaker ag ventures it's called). I suspect that tax money
will flow like water..."

...and there will go all the small independent beef farmers....

Sorry guys... I've been lurking during this whole discussion and find it
quite interesting. I grew up on a small beef farm. I've been
completely turned off by the farm subsidies in the US - no supply and
demand is not a good situation, even if it temporarily hurts some
people. My whole ancestry were farmers - not one farmer left in the
family now, as they either went out of business or opted not to go that
route professionally. I've got an old John Deere 70 diesel that I tool
around our 35 acres here for fun and for the memories, but that's the
extent of my present farm involvement...
I think the idealists and the realists both mean well, but there's too
much apathy and too many idiots out there that don't want to think for
themselves or work enough to understand the challenges we're going to
face until gas costs $10/gal or more or a meal for your family costs
$80... Price always gets their attention...

Ok, I'm kind of done rambling for the night...

Thanks for all your viewpoints, I appreciate informed, intelligent
debates...
Chris
