Actually, the 747-400 has, so far, been the most "calorically" efficient
mover of good and people.  Next was, I believe, a modern bicycle.  From
Scientific American a few years ago.

Quite a discussion.  We all know the good and bad that come from
self-interest and from government.  We do what we can do...use otherwise
wasted products to produce green fuel and make sure our practices are sound.
 Maybe, with civil, well supported arguements to decision makers we can do
some good in the world.
