How about a 1.6 TD with an intercooler? Up the fuel and boost a little,
put a big exhaust on it and you should be pushing around 100hp. That's
plenty for a Rabbit to perform! :) I'll be running a 1.5 with all that and
a
little more when I finally do get around to it. The 1.6 in Dad's pickup is
very respectable and we haven't gotten anywhere near to getting an
intercooler on it. He thought about a 1.9 TD but the cost didn't seem
to balance with the little more power and probable less mileage.

Of course that's probably Imperial gallons. Notice the SDI made about
70mpg! I've been wondering, I think I saw somewhere that the 6 speed
has no more gearing than the 5 speed. Just more steps between the
lowest and highest gears. More overdrive is what would be nice.
