Hi Ed --

Congratulations on getting the shifter set up successfully; I am
following the vanagon list at the moment and there's been a thread there
of folks having trouble doing it.  Sounds like following the book is
the easy way!

My guess is that 'reverse lockout' is simply that you can't accidentally
go into reverse instead of first.  Simple, obvious ;)
