On a more positive note for diesel, I was happy to read in my most recent
"Wooden Boat" magazine that just arrived that most of the coastal schooners
that work the tourist trade in Maine have switched to bio-diesel. They
didn't give the reasons why, i.e. environmental, cost, etc... just a simple
statement of fact. Which I found to be more interesting than if they had
justified the decision with reasons, i.e. the benefits of bio-diesel are
obvious and the switch need not be explained.
Also on another note, has anyone ever gotten diesel on leather before? This
weekend I was helping my father-in-law prime his truck (he had accidentally
run it out of fuel) so we filled it back up and primed it. During the
process I forgot to take my favorite watch off and the leather band got
absolutely soaked in diesel. The smell is extremely potent. (I tried to
convince my wife that the smell emanating from my wrist was a new cologne,
and didn't it smell wonderful. She didn't buy it.) I tried washing it but it
didn't help. If no one has any suggestions I will have to take my cheap self
into the store and purchase another watch band. I know it sounds silly but I
love this watch band and don't want to replace it so any suggestions would
be welcome.
