Well, all, it looks like the Baird family will be hitting the road for the
brunt of
the kid's Christmas break. :) :( If there's opportunity to meet any of
you,
that'd like to meet us, we (at least I) would love the opportunity!
We're heading out on Friday the 20th. We'll head down I-82 to I-84 and
spend the night with Dave in LaGrande. Then we'll continue that way until
we get to Ogdon and onto I-80, across WY then down I-25 at Cheyenne.
At Denver we head east on I-70 to I-135 then down to about 25 miles inside
the OK border.
We'll be at the in-laws until roughly Saturday the 28th. Then we head
down I-35 to the DFW area where we're meeting up with a couple of
former list members. Departure from there will be most likely I-20 to
I 10 all the way past Tucson. There we might take I-8 to a place my sister
told me is nice, Puerto Penasco on the water in Mexico. After that we
head through either Sandy Eggo or LA and up I-5 to my sister's near
Bandon. The last day will be from there to Tacoma on I-5 and home.
Stops and nights aren't planned yet for the trip home. If there are some
things worth seeing that aren't much out of the way, let me know. We
wanted to go through Painted Desert but it's too far north and still hit
Mexico. (The kids should at least be able to say they've been there!) :)
If anybody would like to put up a couple of VW nuts (at least one nut
anyway) and a couple of teenagers, for a night, or at least a quick hello,
let me know. It'd be a kick.
Looks like we're stealing the Passat. It makes better than double the
mileage of the mini van (haven't found a complete TD swap for it yet!) :P
There's nearly as much room too. Not to mention the water pump is
going out AGAIN on the stupid van. The Rabbit isn't big enough nor
fast enough since I don't have the turbo on it YET. Dasher isn't all
back on the road, 5000 *almost* started the other day but looks very
pinto like as it's almost ready for paint and the Quattro only has
enough trunk space for a couple of GUYs' stuff. No way to fit wife
and kid's stuff in a little trunk like that! Although we did it once! Still
need turbo bolts for the Jetta and so on...
Wish us well (or not!)
Loren
