[Vwdiesel] Cracked Block?

I'll go looking in that area again. Anytime you have a head where
the cyl head bolts chatter when being torqued, you need to reexamine
why. It's hard to get the right torque under those circumstances.

In my case, I've always had a very tiny leak of fluid, since day one
with that car. I could never locate it. It just stained the lower
engine shroud. My guess is with higher temperatures caused by the
thermostat failure (the valve plate fell off), the block got more
stress and the gap opened up. The "front" of the block, where the
injector pump, water pump and everything else is, and the back of
the block, where the manifolds are, remains absolutely dry.

Thanks for your ideas.
