As far as I know the 1.6 mechanical head will not work with the
1.9....sorry.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] Engine Removal Question
I've got a death rattle in my 1983 TD motor. I can't remember if I can
remove motor and leave the tranny in. I have an engine hoist and jack
stands to lift the front of the vehicle high enough to remove the motor
out
bottom. I've just never needed to remove the motor and not the tranny.
Do both have to come out together?
Also, depending on the damage to my motor, I'm thinking about buying a
1.9
TD short block. The literature says that a 1.6 head will work with the
1.9
short block but my 1.6 (1983 Jetta TD) is a mechanical, not hydraulic
head.
The 1.9 comes with a hydraulic head. Will a mechanical head work on the
1.9?
I'm thinking of using the 1.6 head so then my turbo and manifolds will
fit
without modification. Right?
Thanks in advance.
Dave
