When I did my engine swap into the 85 Jetta (1.9TD) I found reference to two
glow plug relays, one on the fuse box and one in the engine conpartment.
Teh 1.9 pumps had a electric cold start valve built into them that was
controlled in part by this second glow plug relay.  It was actually refered
to as the Automatic Glow Time Control Module or some such thing.  I have
actually seen late model Ecodiesels that also had some such module under the
