I'd say you lost power. If everything else was working and the engine
would
crank then you only lost power to the fuel shutoff solenoid. The connector
right at the pump is often loose or the wire frayed so that's where I'd check
first.
If your wiring is THAT bad, I'd hit a wrecking yard and pull a harness out
of
a same year/series car and replace it. You have to splice a couple of places
but it's much better than cracking insulation.
I saw a gas Rabbit once that would die whenever it went through the
smallest
of puddles. It turned out the be the ground wire connections at the body and
transmission. They were cruddy enough that a little water and tada! The
same
problem you had.
