Fwd: [Vwdiesel] Re: [vwpickups] Correct oil for a 1985 Jetta TD engine (in a 81 Pickup)

Agreeing with all these replies...

Bentley & owners manual for my '91 TD calls for 15W40 in all but the
coldest conditions. Probably any oil which meets the CH-4 is better than
OK (again, specs call for CD minimum).

Ditto for the Fram filters. My nephew was plant foreman for one of their
shops, and he wouldn't even use them at his greatly reduced employee
discount (i.e. free, in the interest of doing performance evaluation on his
own vehicle).

I have decided to use Mobil Delvac 1 5W40 synth on a part-time basis e.g.
in the Nov-Feb period, and stick to the Rotella 15W40 in the Mar-Jun and
Jul-Oct oil changes... I prefer changes every 4 months instead of on a
mileage basis, since I typically run less than 15K km/yr.

Here in Toronto, the Delvac 1 is almost impossible to get, and outrageously
expensive. When WalMart has it, I snap up -- 4litre jugs for $35Cdn!
