That's right! I'm even in the process of making one- a diesel compression
ignition model airplane engine. Has a contra piston in the head, with a screw
behind to lower the compression to start, and raise it to run. They are
supposed to pull like a horse- swing a huge prop compared to the alky burners.
It isn't exactly the type of diesel you are used to- it still uses a carb to
get a fuel air mix, but is without any glow plug. It burns kerosene or anything
greasy for that matter, and is truly a CI engine, just not injected. There is
one model engine around that is true diesel, high pressure fuel injection pump
and all. It was featured in Strictly IC magazine- I've been a subscriber from
year three to this January when the last issue comes out. The international
fraternity of MICE (miniature internal combustion engines) builders are
saddened by this, but the publishers want to retire- it started out as a
retirement "hobby". Quite the hobby. Engine is the DUX, built by Martin
Alewijn. Sorry no pix online that I know of, but it is beautiful to see, and
runs well as the article suggests.
