  Actually the bearing is a couple inches behind the seal as I recall.
That's
a LOT of play!  I agree with Gary's advice and mic the journal sizes at least.
I'm sure several of us have an intermediate shaft laying around and can tell
you if your measurements are out of whack or not.  I know I have one in
Dad's garage somewhere.
