My engine is a transplant. It originally came in a Jetta. It too has the
two threaded holes in the filter flange. I have a temp sender in one for
a gauge, and a pressure switch in the other. Originally in the jetta it
had just the open-to-close switch as apposed to the closed-to-open
switch that is on the head. Common.
