Hayden,
If using the Jetta-style manifold, the turbo drain in the block should be at
enough slope to drain sufficiently. Scott Foss turbovan at olypen.com could
tell you for sure, he's done a few conversions with the Jetta manifold. If
using the Quantum manifold, the turbo drain will need to be added to the
bottom level of the pan. The factory TDs used that manifold, and it has
served well in my conversion also. Some factory reman engines for diesel
Vanagons came with a TD pan in place. Also, have noticed lately that Tiico
engines have been coming through with the turbo pan installed.....hmmmm. The
Jetta/Rabbit manifold will require a different left engine mount, whereas
the Quantum one will allow enough clearance to use the factory turbo inlet
boot that fits up around the mount.
