Subject: [Vwdiesel] turbo engine in a Vanagon
OK guys, I have found a Westy that is in the right kind of shape, is in a
convenient location and at a good price. It needs an engine and I just
happen to have a nice turbo engine in the garage. Soooooo, exactly what
will I need to put the turbo engine in the Vanagon. I know that the oil
pan is different (van actually comes with the original engine) but can I
just plumb in a oil return on the pan or should the oil return be plumbed
somewhere else? Will the Jetta/Rabbit manifolds work or should I find the
manifolds from a quantum? Any help is appreciated as well as help locating
parts that may be needed in the conversion. Thanks, Hayden
Hayden I used the Jetta manifold in my td vanagon. I had to fabricate the
moter mt. to clear the waste gate which is extra work, but I like my setup
because the turbo is mounted higher and its easer to get your drain back
from the turbo. Also I installed a quantum manifold after I had run the Jetta
setup because I wanted to see if it would work better.I mounted my same
turbo (kkk) and tried it.I feel that the Jetta manifold spooled up the turbo
better and there was less lag.
