[Vwdiesel] Golf relay noise

hi all,
It's been a while but I finally got  85 diesel
golf. It runs great but it has a strange intermittant
sputtering buzz that comes from a relay under the
 dash.
 Its the one on the top row of the relay panel all the
way on the right (passenger side).
 I checked my mechanic friends MOTOR foreign car book
and it says its a fuel relay.  (i thought it was mechanical)
 It looks more like the
 glow plug relay to me. (its really big compared to te
 others) there is a really, really slight change in the
 idle if I pull it out completely when the car is
 running and I drove it around the block without it and
 there seems to be no change in performance.
the relay itself says

and a schematic drawing I don't understand

 on the back side it says
365

Any ideas?
 It does it a couple of times a day and it doesnt seem
 to effect performance in any way when it happens.
 Any ideas?

Also does anyone have a good explanation why my 1.6 NA 5sp Golf is SO much zi
ppier and can comfortably cruise at 15 mph faster on the highway than my 1.6
NA 5sp Caddy.
