Plunger diameter and lift? Trying to find out if a VW pump will suffice
for a project I am working on.

I found a whole sack of good stuff on 1.6td IDI engine in the net. It says =
that 1.6td engine's Bosch VE pump can support 25kW per cylinder. That would=
 equal 100kW in a 4-cyl engine - in other words 136hp.

I have no specific knowledge on this, but I reckon 1.9td engine could well =
have a bigger plunger inside injection pump. If so, that would definately p=
rovide more fuelling. On the other hand why would VW have bothered to make =
bigger pump to 1.9 engine since pump from 1.6 can do the job. Sorry, just r=
ambling here out loud.

Could the 'delivery' end of fuel pump be upgraded?
A whole new high pressure head assembly containing bigger dia plunger and a=
ll. Remember that all kinds of components can be swapped in pumps. In a Bos=
ch VE for example the cam-plates vary depending on application. Maybe some =
alternative cam-plates could give more stroke, i.e. more fuel/plunger strok=
e=2E
Contact Bosch diesel shop and see what they have to say about this.
