 There are two sizes of dial indicators.  One is about 2 1/2 inches or so in
diameter.  The clamping shaft is about 1/2 inch in diameter.  The others,
which these adapters use is a little over an inch in diameter and the shaft
is 3/8 or a little less.  (This is memory guess since I don't have both here
with me.)  Mine is also a Mitutoyo with a 5 rev counter and 1.00 mm per
revolution.  I can check things more closely if needed.  Most machine shops
use the larger indicators but their catalogs should have the smaller ones
available.

  I just found a little info:  This is the diameter of standard dial
indicators
faces by the standard number.  A 1044-01 (MD1-04401L in a catalog I have)
Is an AGD 1, Metric graduation, .01 to 5mm, 1mm rev with a counter It's
$72.50 from J&L industrial supply, 1-800-521-9520.  Like I said most
places should be able to supply the correct gauge.  You do have the
extension to go with the adapter don't you?  :)
AGD 2 = 2 1/4 dia
AGD 0 = 1 1/8 dia
AGD 1 = 1 11/16 dia
AGD 3 = 3 dia
