you should have a torque wrench for installing the injectors. It can be
done without but it's one place I ALWAYS use one.
The heat shields are supposed to be replaced each time they're
disturbed. Since that isn't always possible I've found the safe way
to reuse them. Set one, upside down on about a 5/8 socket,
whatever fits the outside diameter. Then take a tapered ended punch
like a large center punch from a standard larger punch set. It should
fit into the hole of the shield but the taper of the end should rest on the
edge of the hole. Give it a couple of taps with a hammer. It will push
the center of the shield back out so that it will make a good seal. I
usually take a look and tap again, a couple more times. You can
see where it's moved and where it hasn't. It usually misses a little
and you have to lean the punch some. It doesn't have to move much,
just a tad, and you can see the difference. If it's cracked it needs
replaced. Still in a pinch, a sealed cracked one is better than a non
sealing cracked one! :)
Glow plugs usually just go in nice and snug. Use anti-seize on the
threads of the injector and glow plugs.
