Not only can winter fuel have an effect there are multiple other cold
weather/winter effects (I know, some of these may be minimal, but they add up)
1. Lower tire pressures (unless you "top off" the air) (increased rolling
resistance).
2. longer use of lights (loads the alternator a little more).
3. Slightly increased wind resistance (thicker air).
4. Increased average wind resistance (Its just plain windier in winter)
5. Engine takes longer to reach operating temperature (This is probally the
biggie)
6. Engine oil, gear lube and bearing grease stays thicker longer, and remains
thicker in operation.
I notice 48 - 50, measured, in summer and about 45 - 47 in winter.
