  I've always STRONGLY recommended putting a pyrometer in before
messing with it.  Especially in a TD.  Otherwise just take it to the
point of too much smoke (much visible in the mirror).  Usually you
go too far and then have to go back.  I think I only turned the Dasher
up about 1/4 turn and that was enough to take me from about 600F to
1300F!  It was little enough that the anti-tamper collar is still on and
in place.  Not as dangerous on a NA but cranking black smoke is just
bad for our reputations, wastes fuel, washes cylinder walls possibly,
and makes more soot to build up in the engine, exhaust and oil.
