I have a 1981 4 door LS Diesel. What makes it rare?

Wow, an LS 4 door. I've only seen a few 2 door ones here. No wonder he/you
want to save it! A body shop should be able to do it for about $250 (cash)
if
you know one well. All the "stuff" will need to be out of the way first.
Carpet,
heater and A/C box and probably the dash will need to be out as well as
maybe the engine. Depending on the location and just what needs replaced,
it might be done from inside. In which case the engine and lower control
arm
won't be in the way.
It cost me about $250 to have the rear "torque tube" for the torsion bars,
replaced in my 911. I pulled the engine and tranny. After towing it down
to the shop (and ruining a wheel bearing because of no tension due to
no CV joint) I cut out the old tube. The cut the replacement to fit and
welded it in along with the "upgrades" of more factory bracing. :)
