[Vwdiesel] Starts fine dies later(revisited)

I finally got back home and this morning was my first chance to check some of the issues. All connections are tight, I held a light to the translucent tube. The tube showed just a few bubbles in it but not anything alarming but at some point the bubbles stood still in the tube and even appeared to move back towards the filter. This must mean my return is clogged?
I almost remember on my 86 Jetta when I filled it I could see fuel pumping into the filler neck from the orfice on the right, on this one nothing.
