Geez!  Big enough picture Nate!  A few of those and you've got as much
data as an mp3!  ;-D
  I wouldn't be so quick to kick yourself.  Generally when you crack a block
from splitting a hole, it rarely cracks like yours is.  It usually is cracked
at
the deck and then goes down a little rather than starting down a little and
carrying down through the block. It should be weld-able from the looks of
the picture.  My only concern is if the block is thin and that's why it
cracked.
It'd definitely take and experienced cast iron welder to fix though and not
have it crack again or worse.
