[Vwdiesel] (OT) Rabbit seat belt question

My friend's '80 Rabbit D (He had it 15 years ago) definetly had the seat
(shoulder) belts that were attached to the door and were "automatic". I know
some newer cars now have the manual lap belt you have to pull accross your
lap and attach to its clasp to the left of the seat in addition to the (now
motorized) shoulder belts. But my friend's Rabbit had a great big knee bar
running the length of the dash that negated the neceissity of the lap belt
part. How I hated that knee bar, since I'm real tall. It just jammed your
knees all the time. No way you could slide under the lap belt w/ that.
