  I've opened brand new or rebuilds (whatever they were using at the dealer)
and had them shoot a stream.  We always tested before installing.  They
can come that way or you could get a dab of dirt in it.  Sometimes they'll
flush out but usually not.
  Not much way I can see it being the pump.  If it was putting in too much
fuel, with a good pattern, and not be "running away."
