[Vwdiesel] Dumb Question

In my opinion, the big difference is in how they fail.  The diesels fail by
cracking, due to vibration.  The gassers fail by corrosion, due to acidic
moisture and heat. Rule of thumb for chemical reaction kinetics: For every
10 degree Celsius rise in the reaction temperature, the rate of the
reaction is doubled or tripled.

Going on ancient memories and tribal lore, gassers have temps of 700
degrees at some point downstream in the system, compared to temperatures of
400 degrees at the same point in a diesel system.

So, anyhow, gassers operate HUNDREDS of degrees hotter than diesels. That
would place the reaction rates about thirty times faster, and probably more
than that. Add the more corrosive nature of the gasser exhaust and you get
corrosion starting immediately and destroying the metal in a few years, and
diesel failure due to some other cause than corrosion
entirelly.......hence, vibration and cracking.
