There was a detail omission...I scored things with a grinding bit.
I used a die grinder. My experience is that Dremel tools tend to be
slow and there isn't enough total power to work quickly. Again, air
power.
The two necessary tools for real car work: compressed air, and oxy-acetylene
torch.
BTW, I like your idea of laying a bead on the race. Normally, I
think in terms of material removal. I can usually cut the race off
and have the hub cool enough to handle within a minute or two. Besides,
bearing race material really cuts NICE.
