I did this with the previous engine in the 87 jetta that had the "eroded"
piston and perhaps a broken ring.

Blowby was so bad that it would hoist oil into the air induction and the
engine would run away, requiring application of brakes to bring it down ,
meantine smoking the entire highway behind me.

I used a 1 gallon plastic jug, ran the breather hose into it, and another to
vent it to the air induction, and was able to run the engine for an
additional year until it "retired"
