Head number 068 103 373 M on a 1989 Jetta? Hmmmmm....
The PO, or somebody, put an eariler engine in it for
sure. That head number is for a mechanical NA head,
used on early '86 and earlier VW diesel NAs, and it
must be mated to a block of that vintage designed for
mechanical lifter heads. The "N" denotes TD mechanical
lifter head. Note, you have to adjust the valves
periodically on this engine!
