That I couldn't say. My Mexican-built Jetta is supposed to have the
stronger clutch - I think the ones more prone to slipping showed up in the
A4 bodies somewhere around 2000. The two manufacturers are LUK and Sachs.
When I replace my clutch, it will be with a VR6-spec assembly, sourced from
Jim at dieselgeek - http://www.dieselgeek.com/ . Clutch, pressure plate, and
throwout bearing for $185.
The A4s use a dual-mass flywheel, the upgrade for one of those is to throw
it away and put a "normal" one on. Add $270 to the price above.
No connection with the above, but I have heard good things about him and he
has good prices. Nice timing belt packages, too. I'll need one of those in
about 20K miles.
