[Vwdiesel] What's the difference between FF and FN trannys?

I believe the FF and the FN are identical transmissions as far as gearing.
I'd have to look to be positive but as I recall, the list has them in the
same
column. There ARE a FEW early ones that had a slightly lower 4th and
5th. They are pretty rare and I guess you can decipher the build date from
the remaining numbers in the code.
The difference could also be that the Golf is much better at sound
isolation than the pickup as well as being a little heavier or running
larger tires. Those could account for the acceleration and just
"sounding" like the engine's winding more. The noise could be the
source of faster acceleration too. It's surprising how many people
actually believe their car is faster if they have a noisier intake or
exhaust. The stopwatch is more reliable than the brain. ;-)
