Rudolf Diesel invented it, but Clessie Cummins made the design work right.
First real application looks like German Subs in WW1.
Cummins designed a new injector pump, and put one in a packard in 1929, Then
MB put it in a car in 1936. I guess MB was first to production, but Cummins
drove one first?
In 1931 Cummins put one in a truck and drove it coast to coast for $11.22
worth of fuel.
In 1934 Cummins went into production with the H engine designed for
Transportation.
Who really knows who was first?
