  One area where solid lifters are nicer.  :)  It might be a little tough to
check
unless you do a compression or leakdown test.  You might be able to pull
the valve cover and using a valve depressing tool or big screwdriver/ pry
bar depress the valves enough times to drain the lifters and get a clearance
reading.  You'd be looking for a tight one, zero or less for clearance with a

"flat" lifter.
  Other possibilities could be a slightly bad injector, low compression in
one hole (head gasket, valve, stuck or broken ring).  Possibly timing a tad
retarded as well.  Not that the timing is the problem but might exacerbate
the existing problem.
