I have not done this yet. However, I have regretted not checking or
replacing all the glow plugs when I have a head off for a new gasket. The
following modification is done on all diesels during a head gasket replacement.
I have changed the wiring on all my diesels, dispensing with the buss bar
and running a single heavy wire from each plug to a point above the valve
cover, where I join them with a bolt, to the heavy wire from the fuse. This
makes checking individual plugs quick and simple with no frustration, and
also speeds up changing a single plug, with no buss bar to clutter the area.
Because I can now leave the nut on the plug both for removal and
replacement, and hook the open loop of the wire on the stud, then squeezing
it shut, loosing small nuts down the black hole is a thing of the past.
