Start at the battery then do the alternator.
Pay lots of attention to battery --get a good one=
.Traditionally lead acid batteries last only a few years.Sandpaper Terminals and Vaseline at first sign of problems like slow cranking. How fast should a Rabbit start ? . My 1982 goes "BUMP" and runs.NO cranking is heard.
And use only distilled water or (snow???) or rainwater. I use water from dehumidifier.
Alternator : Voltage increases on battery when charging takes place. Check length of brushes and use belt dressing (lots) on belt. 65 Amps 12 Volts is a tall order for one
skinny belt. Sandblasting of pulleys helps to prevent slip.
In 1970 Sears was selling a battery called "Diehard" with a lifetime guarantee.
Text : Buy a Diehard and you will never have to buy another battery as long as
you own that vehicle. Does anyone have access to the text ?????? . It
was all over the papers and catalogues at the time. I mislaid mine .And Sears
are trying to renege. Wish I was 18 ---again. Hagar.
PS: I will post my letter to CEO of Sears. LOL.
