release plate?? i assume you mean release bearing by
that?
anyway, what you're describing sounds like a release
bearing that is starting to go bad. that bearing is
what sits on the release fork and actually depresses
the fingers on the clutch pressure plate. since the
fork is stationary and the pressure plate is spinning
at engine speed, the bearing is necessary between them
and is only under load when there is some fore being
applied to the pressure plate fingers, which
disengages the clutch.
is that clear enough? it's cold and i've been outside
doing emergency winterizing of a couple project cars.
