  Nice thing:  The upper land is a steel insert so it's harder to gouge out.
  Bad thing:  Using an old ring as a carbon scraper cuts the crap out of
your thumb and finger!  Kinda makes hamburger out of them.  :P  Once
I used a grove scraper I've never used a ring and won't unless I'm darn
desperate!  Those things work slick, don't gouge the sides of the groves
and do the job in minutes!  :)
