Years before I snared my first Rabbit , I kept hearing horror stories about=
warped heads, twisted heads Headgasket failures etc.The instant I saw that=
Head was aluminium and block was cast iron , I knew that heat was going to=
be a problem,or should I say gradient, call it the freeze fry decease.Alu=
minium expands about twice as much as I iron when heated. The two most exp=
ensive problems on a Rabbit Diesel is 1. Low lubrisity fuel. 2. Frost to ov=
erheating .
And we can overcome both. The fuel must lubricate Injection pump properly, =
nuff said on lube. The cooling system is complicated (Not a model T)Read SA=
E paper # 820441 VW people had a lot of problems making a headgasket work.P=
arts must slide back and forth ( VW mentions microlube on gasket)If you can=
keep plugged in at all times , it lowers the gradient a lot.Look at some R=
abbit diesels say 1980 -1982 ,look at the cooling expansion tank , see the =
black stuff ? --nuff said. Pay attention to the cooling system OR PAY.(lat=
er). Hagar.
Have fun.
