A few years ago I replaced the alt. belt w/ a brand spankin new one from VW
(Autobahn), and later that day all of a sudden I heard something slapping
around under the hood and the alt. light immediately came on. I immediately
pulled over and found that my brand new belt shredded itself. Must have been
defective, since I replaced that belt many times before and never had an
immediate failure. I should have taken it back, but did not. Since it was
just the alternator belt and I was only about 5 miles from home, I drove home
and put the old belt back on.
Does anyone have a source for the alt belt, other than the dealer? I never
seem to be able to find them elsewhere. Its the short (960 MM?) belt for
diesel A-2 Jetta w/ A/C and no P/S.
