[Vwdiesel] Oil Light/Buzzer

There is a fairly detailed test procedure in the Bentley manual for checking the
circuit. I think several here have reported that its the sensors that cause the
problem. My '85 TD began having the oil alarm/light go off on a regular basis
too, just like you describe w/ the old motor. I swapped in a rebuilt motor
(because the old was using a qt. of oil/300 miles), and changed everything over,
so the same oil pressure switches were used on the new motor as the old, and my
jetta has not had the oil buzzer sound since. I did remove the rods and crank,
and amazingly, the bearings appeared unworn, or virtually so! and that was at
250,000 miles. So, worn bearings (particularly the intermediate shaft ones) can
cause this too. Someone on the list just disconnected the darn warning system and
went about his life. I figure if it is from a worn motor, might as well just keep
running it til it fails, which could be a very long time!
