  Older Jeeps had backwards lug nuts, too.

 I'm not certain, but I seem to remember dealing with some vehicle that had
left-hand (or "anticlockwise" for our British readers) lug bolts. Not lug
nuts, lug bolts, like our VWs. I wonder if it was one of my dad's aircooled
rigs?
