My '03 TDI has an intermittent in the Monsoon sound system. Can anyone
advise me of the correct tools for pulling the radio? Has anyone fashioned
these tools out of sheet metal?
Can anyone point me to a source for them? A webpage dealing with
VW radio problems?
I'm tired of going to the dealer on intermittent problems.
BTW, my take on the Monsoon...not really a high fidelity system, but it
probably satisfies the needs of the majority of buyers. It could also
use a little more headroom (power). The CD player won't handle CD-RWs,
which is a real disappointment. MP3 capability is a shortcoming which
has other family members grousing. So on the scale where 10 is GREAT,
5 is suitable, and 0 is completely insufficient, it does about an 8.
The FM receiver seems to be rather hot, and also has pretty good intermod
rejection (for city situations). Sensitivity and rejection are trades
in receiver design, so they have invested a little here. Now, if they
only invested more on the CD portion.
Thanks.
Val
ps: On the power (headroom) issue...the system has plenty of power...it's
really a trade in the speaker (driver) design. Hard to do in a car, where
long excursions are necessary, which are incompatable with higher
efficiency drivers.
