  As I understand it, it's the (axial?) play that should be pretty well non
existent (end to end).  There is always some (radial?) play (side to side).
You just don't want enough to let the compressor wheel touch the
housing or close.  With 4 bearing "gaps" per end instead of 2, there will
definitely be some play.
