This is real odd. The worn side is trhe side opposite the cam? There should be
NO NOTICEABLE wear on this side, and negligable wear on othe other. I do believe
the lifter is supposed to rotate a little, along w/ the shim as the engine runs.
This should even out any wear. Perhaps this is not occurring for some reason.
Like Loren, my only thought is PO gross negligence r.e. oil changes. Perhaps
extremely tight valve clearances at some point could have done it.

In this case, I'd see if the lifters turn freely (cam lobe "UP") and replace the
shims.
